Indra implements these systems on most of the helicopters of the fleet for military transport
Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, in temporary consortium with Eurocopter España, will implement self-protection systems on 23 Cougar and Chinook transport helicopters of the Spanish army. The project amounts to ¬20M and is to be finished in 42 months. With this contract, most of the fleet of this type of helicopters will be equipped with these systems.
The contract, awarded through NATO’s Namsa agency, will increase the security level of these platforms which are used for troops transport. The system explores the radio-electric spectrum for threat detection and identification such as: Man-portable air-defence systems, commonly known as manpads. For such purpose, the latest digital reception technologies as well as process algorithms are used, since they allow to identify and to countermeasure threats in complex environments.
This equipment is essential for helicopters, but specifically for those involved in scenarios where the army is currently operating. Besides the systems, Indra will also supply the support systems on land to properly prepare missions.
In 2006 Indra was awarded the first contract to provide the Cougar and Chinook helicopter fleet of the army with self-protection systems. Therefore, this contract is an evidence of the renewal of the Ministry of Defence and Army’s trust in the company’s systems.
This reference reaffirms Indra’s leadership as an electronic defence systems supplier. The company is currently working in this area by participating in programmes such as the Spanish Tiger combat helicopter or the European A400 military transport aircraft.
Indra is the premier Information Technology company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe and Latin America. It is ranked as the second European company in its sector according to stock market capitalisation, and it is one of the three Spanish companies with more investment in R&D. In 2007, revenues reached € 2.167 M, of which a third came from the international market. The company employs more than 24.000 professionals and has clients in more than 90 countries.
