The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha received the Global ICT Excellence award for the Ykonos system on May 20th at WCIT, the flagship event of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). With this project, carried out in cooperation with Indra, Castilla-La Mancha’s hospital network has become an international benchmark and an example for the rest of Spain, Europe and USA. WITSA is a consortium of 73 international ICT organisations from economies across the globe and whose members comprise more than 90% of the global IT market
The Ykonos system was implemented in Castilla-La Manchas health care services in cooperation with Indra. The award was collected by the Managing Director of the Health Care Services of Castilla La Mancha (SESCAM), Juan Alfonso Ruiz Molina.
The event held in Malaysia, was presided by the country’s Prime Minister Hon Dato`Seri Abdullah and around 3.000 representatives from more than 80 countries attended. The award was collected by SESCAM’s Managing Director Juan Alfonso Ruiz as a representative of the regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha and presented by Josep M. Vilá, Vice-president of AETIC and General Director of Indra along with the Chairman of WCIT, Hon Dato`Seri Abdullah.
Juan Alfonso Ruiz Molina pointed out the extraordinary effort by the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha to provide the Health Care services of the area with technological progress to facilitate access to citizens and improve quality.
Ykonos project
Thanks to the Ykonos digital medical imagery system which is in operational service in all hospitals including specialised care centres, x-rays, ultrasound scan as well as other diagnostic tests are no longer handed in to the patient. Instead, they are digitally submitted along with its corresponding report to an internal network with access from any centre in the region.
To give continuity to this project, Castilla-La Mancha’s Health Care services (SESCAM) is creating the Centros de Innovacion en Tecnologías de la Información Sanitaria, CITIS, (Centre for information technology innovation applied to health) that use the same medical imagery transmission in areas such as Anatomopathology, Nuclear Medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Gastroenterology.
Indra, a leader in digital health
Currently, Indra’s health care management systems provide two thirds of the national population with services. Among them we can mention the electronic prescription in Andalusia, the first autonomous region in replacing the traditional prescription with the sanitary card and Abucasis, a pioneer system at national level that collects all the information regarding medical records of Valencia.
