Indra will implement the simulator for euros 1.4 M at the East African School of Aviation of Nairobi where air controllers of the area will undergo training
Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, was awarded a contract to implement an air traffic simulator at the East African School of Aviation of Nairobi, where most air traffic controllers of nearby countries undergo training. The contract, for euros 1.4 M and to be concluded in 8 months, is the first of its kind in Kenya and opens the door to new opportunities in the area.
The simulator uses three individual rooms for training simultaneously; one as a control tower (TWR), the second for approach control (APP) and the last one for area control (ACC).
The system includes a highly complex traffic simulation that comprehends large data volumes essential for air traffic controllers: flight plan, aircraft information, vehicles on runaways, meteorology, radar information etc.
It is also worth noting the thorough visual system which reproduces virtual traffic at any point of the airport and under different weather conditions: rain, fog, night, daylight etc. Besides this, the system incorporates information of airports in general but also of specific airports where would-be air controllers will be destined.
With this contract, Indra enters the air traffic market in Kenya and consolidates its presence in this sector in East Africa. Last year, the company was awarded a contract to implement an air traffic control and surveillance system at Entebe airport, the most important of Uganda for €6.6M. The system was started up on the occasion of the Commonwealth heads of government meeting presided over by the Queen of England.
