Minsait implements a new integrated digital system in Vatican Museums

Minsait, an Indra company, is a key partner for the digitalization of the Vatican Museums, one of the most visited places in the world. The leading company in the fields of Digital Transformation and Information Technology is implementing a system to integrate the services of the Vatican Museums, improving the protection of the works and the safety of its visitors.

The innovative system was presented during the convention “Preventive conservation in major museums” that took place in the Vatican City and welcomed some of the most important museums in the world.

Minsait technology, together with the work performed by the Indra Infrastructure Security Systems Unit, will make it possible to integrate all the security systems of the Vatican Museum in a single platform, which will offer a more precise and complete vision of everything that happens inside, thus enabling an intelligent and optimized management of the flow of visitors and of the spaces, and further improving security.

The project is part of a five-year digitalization plan oriented at improving the services offered to the public, and includes not only the Vatican Museums but also the Directorate of Security and Civil Protection Services, the Directorate of Technical Services and the Directorate of Telecommunications, all of them part of the “Governorate” of the Vatican City State.

The technology of the complex system of sensors, already up and running at the Museums, will be developed, improved, and integrated into the platform to provide useful data also to security and management systems.

A team of Minsait experts in Smart Security and Smart Tourism have already completed a first study defining the security plan that will be implemented in the next few years. In addition, a Data Center is being created to receive and integrate the information coming from the different systems, centralizing the management of the security processes.

A complex fiber optic network covering that already covers some 12 miles will connect the complex system of flow control and environmental sensors, video surveillance and security, and fire and evacuation systems. In addition, the wireless connection will be available to the thousands of visitors who enjoy the works of art in the Vatican Museums every day, and will offer new visit experiences through dedicated applications and a “safety place”.

A comprehensive Safety & Security digital system

In its initial phase, the project will address the digital digitalization of all the security and visitors flow management systems, positioning the Vatican Museums as a world leader for Safety & Security thanks to Minsait technology.

The integration of the different sources and systems will make it possible to centralize of the surveillance and the control of all the spaces of Museums, thus guaranteeing an immediate diagnosis of each incident based on the situation detected, the place and context in which it occurred and the number of affected visitors.

In addition, visitor will be fully protected in emergency situations thanks to a digital and multimedia warning system that channels visitors depending on the levels of concentration of people in the rooms, accelerating and automating procedures and evacuation protocols.

“Integra Museum”, the Vatican Museums experience with Minsait technology

The agreement between Minsait and the Vatican Museums also includes the joint development of “Integra Museum”, an innovative digitalization and safety platform that will be available in museums and centers around the world.

The platform combines the knowledge and experience of the Vatican Museums with Minsait technology based on the “Integra” platform, which incorporates the most innovative technology of the Internet of Things, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for the digitalization, security and management of visitors flow.
