  • The collaboration has produced a new system that, thanks to Blockchain technology, enables the registration of any knowledge that the company possesses, through the creation of secure, immutable and confidential evidence
  • This technology is here to revolutionize the traditional methods now available, since it can dramatically reduce current costs by up to 30 times; it maximizes process safety; and it provides versatility, by recording evidence about formats that could not be registered until now.
  • In addition, it enables the proper management of cutting-edge legal concepts such as Trade Secrets, in which Spain is already a pioneer, with yesterday's enactment of one of the first specific laws in the world on this matter.
Minsait y Clarke, Modet & Cº presentan la primera aplicación de Blockchain 100% en producción y con clientes reales para el sector de propiedad industrial e intelectual

Minsait, an Indra company, has presented with Clarke Modet & Co., the firm with expertise in Industrial and Intellectual Property, the first Blockchain application for this sector that is 100% in production and already has real customers. The collaboration between the two parties has produced a new system which, thanks to Blockchain technology, enables the registration of any knowledge and know-how that the company possesses, through the creation of secure, immutable and confidential evidence.

The project includes the development of a blockchain-based service that includes an application that customers will use to access the Minsait permissioned hybrid network, supported by third-generation Blockchain technology, whose integrity is audited in Alastria and in the Ethereum network. In addition, it allows for the use of a Minsait service that provides proof of existence of digital assets.

The proposal also includes the deployment of a node of Clarke, Modet & Co. within the Alastria network, this becoming the first case of 100% productive use with real customers in the said Blockchain. Because this network is still at the testing phase, the system will also rely on Ethereum until this network is fully operational. Alastria is the first multi-sector consortium promoted by organizations and institutions for the establishment of a semi-public Blockchain/DLT infrastructure, supporting services with legal effectiveness in Spain and in accordance with European regulations.

This is a technology that will revolutionize the traditional methods available so far for the recording of evidence in the field of Intellectual and Industrial Property because:

  • It can reduce current costs drastically: by up to 30 times
  • It maximizes process safety by eliminating the risk associated with making confidential documents available to third parties to record evidence
  • It can recorded evidence, immediately and massively, for formats that until now could not be recorded due to the technological limitations of traditional records.

For Dina Chaves, Corporate Director at Clarke, Modet & Co, "adapting to new market trends and providing our customers with innovative solutions is one of our objectives at Clarke, Modet & Co. The use of Blockchain for our trade secret protection solution provides not only technical and security advantages, it also provides convenience for our customers.”

In this sense, Eusebio Yribarren, Corporate Director of Information Technology at Clarke, Modet & Co, states that "within the process of Digital Transformation we are immersed in, we decided to opt for Blockchain technology to meet demands arising from new business requirements. This technology is characterized by applications for the security, traceability and durability of the stored data that make its alteration impossible over time. These technical capabilities are key in the field of Industrial and Intellectual Property and only a disruptive technology such as Blockchain can provide them."

Additionally, Fernando Cuenca, Minsait Director of Emerging Technologies, points out that the launch of this new service "is a major milestone for the application of Blockchain to real businesses. The time for testing the concept has passed for us and it is exciting to see how we can apply Blockchain to new services that users are starting to use and that our clients start monetizing from day 1.“

Essential for managing Trade Secrets

This innovative system will enable the proper management of cutting-edge concepts such as Trade Secrets. Indeed, Spain yesterday became a pioneer in this field, having enacted one of the first specific laws in the world that deals with this. The concept of Trade Secrets is also key for the Spanish economy since, as the COTEC Foundation for Innovation has stated, of the generated intangible assets, only a small proportion is protected by traditional Industrial Property rights (patents, trademarks); hence the vast majority is Know-How, whose main form of legal protection is by of Trade Secret.

Furthermore, this blockchain-based evidence recording system is applicable to other protection systems beyond Trade Secrets. In this regard, Minsait's network, a hybrid permissioned Blockchain network with public network auditing, makes it possible to apply it to any other business scenario, as it is unique in its ability to respond to real use cases, in a situation where current public Blockchains are not adequate, private ones fall short and those permissioned are not yet mature enough.

Roberto Espina Industry and Consumption Market Manager, and responsible for the practice of Professional Services at Minsait, highlights the growing interest of the sector "in these emerging technologies (Blockchain, Natural Language Processing PLN, CRM ...) due to their value contribution to existing businesses, and even the opportunity to open new lines of business based on them. Minsait has extensive sectoral experience of working with Professional Services companies, which adds to its technological capabilities to make it the ideal partner for this type of initiative.”
