An HOV lane, also known as Bus-HOV lane, is a lane for High-Occupancy Vehicles. Its aim is to rationalise journeys by prioritising the use of shared cars or public transport. They are configured as an efficient and sustainable alternative to respond to some of the major mobility challenges:
- Encouraging the use of public transport, improving mobility, promoting the sustainable use of private vehicles and improving air quality.
- Actions within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, assisting in the deployment of low-emission zones.
- Helps achieve the objectives associated with the reduction of emissions and meet the goals set forth by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Planning for 2030
- Helps achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which the company has committed.
- Offer key benefits, in terms of efficiency, economic and time savings, sustainability and safety, and are backed by experiences across the world.
Technological elements in Bus-HOV Lanes
Technology plays a key role in the deployment, management and operation of such lanes. We were pioneers in the implementation of these lanes in Spain, with the Bus-HOV lane on the A-6 in Madrid, and now have the capabilities, experience and solutions necessary at Indra for the comprehensive and intelligent management of this sustainable mobility initiative, which is increasingly in demand by road infrastructure managers and administrators.
