Description of the Project
The objective of OMICRON is to develop an Intelligent Asset Management Platform with a broad portfolio of area specific innovative technologies to enhance the construction, maintenance, renewal and upgrade of the European road network. This project will improve the whole asset management pipeline focusing on four pillars:
- Implementation of digital inspection technologies.
- Development of a road Digital Twin.
- Construction of a Decision Support Tool.
- Development of smart construction and intervention solutions for road infrastructures.
OMICRON’s Intelligent Platform will be interconnected by a BIM-oriented Digital Twin linked to the Decision Support Tool, which will enable the industrialisation and automation of a number of road management tasks, which currently still have a high labour component. OMICRON’s developments will address the entire road network system including pavement, bridges, tunnels, lighting or signalling systems.
These improvements will result in:
- Increase of the safety levels in road intervention actions, affecting both road users and personnel
- Increase in the capacity of the road network
- Overall improvement of the efficiency of road intervention processes
- Subsequent reduction of maintenance costs
OMICRON will be a common link between state-of-the-art innovative solutions for several of the most common and intensive construction, maintenance and inspection actions in roads in order to reach an automated and optimised solution
Industrial Partners
Indra's Role
Indra is the leader of WP2, which is related to the advanced technologies for road inspection, where it is on charge of the V2X communications and on the on board vehicle equipment technology.
Indra is also the coordinator of the technical demonstrator 2 (TD2) located in the city of Madrid, which includes technologies as V2X communications, AI cameras for early detection of pathologies on the pavement, and finally the development of augmented reality and virtual reality tools for supporting the maintenance action on the field.
Prointec, as linked third party, provides support to Indra Sistemas in all the tasks of the project, in addition to being in charge of the data integration of the technologies involved in OMICRON in a Road Digital Twin.
Indra Factoría Tecnológica, as linked third party of Indra Sistemas, develops AR/VR tools for the support of road maintenance staff during an action on site, in the corresponding work packages as well as in the technical demonstrator 2 of OMICRON.
