Project Description
Patient empowerment through telemedicine services is considered a potential tool to reduce healthcare costs and improve efficiency of the health systems, reinforcing healthcare quality. Patient empowerment has become an element of high priority in the EU health strategy, supported by national and regional health authorities.
PALANTE project focuses on the implementation, scaling up and optimization of 7 pilots based on the concept of secure and user friendly online access by citizens to their medical/health data. The main goal of this proposal is to empower patients so they will be able to make informed decisions about their health, take an active role in their care and collaborate effectively with their healthcare team thanks to the use of information and communication technologies.
PALANTE Project considers 7 new pilots in 6 countries (7 regions) and 2 additional on-going pilots in 2 other countries. The project mobilizes 21 partners in 10 different countries, and 69.550 new users. Pilot teams include public and private partnerships ensuring all the key stakeholders involved in eHealth provision.
All the pilots tackle the issue of patient’s secure access to their own health information. Additionally, 5 of these pilots address breakthrough telemedicine solutions for the monitoring of chronic diseases , including comprehensive self-learning, and education systems for the self management and monitoring by patients of their diseases, these systems will be validated for diabetes, hypertension, chronic heart failure, severe arthritis and respiratory diseases.
The Project also takes into account the challenge of patients’ mobility by addressing interoperability among pilots. Some partners of PALANTE consortium are directly involved in EpSOS project.

Indra's Role
Indra’s participation in PALANTE Project will be managed and coordinated from the Advanced Digital Healthcare Center of Excellence at Seville. The role of Indra in the project is particularly noteworthy, Indra takes part actively in four of the five work packages of the project, and its participation has four main branches of action:
- Technical Coordinator, whose role will be direct support to the project coordinator, focusing on technical tasks.
- Leader for the Work package 2 which address with the implementation of the 7 Pilots that the project will cover.
- Technological provider of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) in the implementation of the Pilot 1: Andalusian Pilot.
- Leader of the Exploitation plan of the project.
Universities and Technological Centres
Technologies used
Andalusian Pilot is based on the integration within the Andalusian Health System, DIRAYA, through the module Clic Salud, of those functionalities derived from the prototype Tratamiento 2.0 that will allow the remote monitoring of patients with diabetes and hypertension. The aforementioned Center of Excellence of Advanced Digital Healthcare at Seville has actively participated in both projects , “Clic Salud” has been fully designed and developed in this center , while for Tratamiento 2.0 was addressed the management and technical coordination of this R+D+i project.
The objectives of this pilot rto be implemented under PALANTE pilot are:
- Allowing and encouraging those patients enrolled in PALANTE not only the access to their summarized health history, which is available through Clic Salud, but also the chance to include by themselves their personal healthcare information regarding their chronic condition that is going to be monitored in PALANTE project. Bring to chronic patients telemedicine and Telemonitoring services that will improve their adherence through training, healthy habits and access to health information.
