Project Description
The main objective of SAPPIEMS project is to focus on the strategic and technical needs of the electricity markets around the world regarding: smart grids, smart meters remote management, management of peak demand, demand response and monitoring in real time.
To achieve this main objective, SAPPIEMS will design and implement a system of comprehensive, flexible and configurable information that includes advanced management measurement and network operation needs : real-time monitoring, energy balances in transformation centers at aggregate level and bulk processing of information from smart meters. This includes the acquisition of information from different meters and concentrators, bulk processing using real time new technologies (CEP, Storm, Mongo DB) and non-real time technologies (Hadoop, Impala). It also includes the development of advanced analysis algorithms for large volume of data using Rdoop and information consultation on a web portal.
This platform will include features and services that will calculate energy balances at central level and aggregate level, monitoring various electrical parameters in real time (supervisor medium-low voltage at transformation center level) and adding, validating and estimating the data from the meters, from detecting gaps to estimating measurements from historic profiles.

Indra's Role
Software Labs is leading the project with its extensive knowledge on measurement management systems and intends to use a dual architecture paradigm: request / response, and a platform for extreme transaction and processing in real time to ensure interoperability, open integration and processing information necessary for network monitoring and power management to the consumer.
Indra brings to the project its expertise in project development and market knowledge, particularly liable to investigate how the different elements of the grid can interact through an ICT platform to improve operational network, investigate and develop new business models that are emerging with the integration of new systems (smart metering) and new technologies (power electronics solid state).
Technologies used
Acquisition, through a real-time processing middleware that implements the standard DDS (Data Distribution Service), which will give the project the ability to acquire massive distributed data in real time, allowing also to conduct pre validations on field.
Processing using Hadoop and HBase for massive data management and tools like MongoDB and event monitoring engines CEP for online processing that ensures aggregation, correlation, validation and exploitation of information.
Inquiry and Analysis, offering value-added data in real time thanks to technologies such as Impala and Storm and databases like Cassandra. The seamless integration of these technologies ensures the processing and analysis of data generated by the sensor network for advanced management, monitoring and energy monitoring.
