  • The solution includes an avant-garde pricing system which determines the best fare for the traveler.
  • Indra reinforces its position as a supplier of Metro St Louis with a previous project in 2006.
  • This new contract in USA reaffirms Indra’s international leadership in the ticketing market with projects in Malaysia, India, china, Mexico, Chile or Portugal, among other countries.

Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe was awarded a contract to implement cutting edge contactless ticketing technology in Metro St Louis bus and light rail networks. Metro owns and operates the St. Louis metropolitan region's public transportation system, including Missouri and Illinois. The contract amounts to USD 6.6 M.

This project reinforces Indra’s position as a benchmark supplier of Metro St Louis having already developed a ticketing project for the light rail in 2006. It is also an international reference in a market where Indra is one of the leading companies worldwide.

The project entails the design and implementation of a contactless ticketing system for the metro and bus networks covering 37 stations and nearly 70 bus routes respectively. Besides this, the IT company will upgrade the current systems delivered in the previous contract, and will implement new automatic ticket dispensing, cancellation and validation systems to replace older equipment. All systems will be integrated in the control centre also set up by Indra. The centre allows to expedite the processing of the information related to the exploitation and management of the network and to simplify maintenance of the systems.

Avant-garde and future system for big cities

Among the innovative features of the solution we should mention the back-office system. It will coordinate interoperability and management of either individual operator or integrated tickets for multi-modal and multi-operator trips.

In addition, the project incorporates an avant-garde pricing system in the ticketing sector called Account Base System which determines the best fare for the traveler. This type of pricing is the future of the ticketing solutions for big cities and Indra, one of the first companies to develop this type of system.

Indra will also implement a portal web for each regional operator so that users can buy, top up, and report lost or stolen contactless smartcards, among other operations.

Thanks to this project, Metro St Louis will benefit from fraud reduction, operating costs or improvement of the information on trips made. This way, the service can be adapted to meet real needs.

Indra’s technology obtains access award

Indra’s technology has recently received an Honorable Mention by Austin access awards thanks to the project delivered by the company for Austin Light Rail, Texas.
