Indra and SESCAM to cooperate in telemedicine programmes for chronic patients

Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe and SESCAM will conduct pilot tests in order to asses the feasibility of a monitorisation of patient with chronic diseases while at home. The cooperation agreement was signed today in Toledo by the Regional Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, Fernando Lamata; and Indra’s Director of Public Administration and Health, Lorenzo Canales.

The cooperation seeks to generate knowledge and R&I+i to to enhance the quality and modernisation of healthcare. Indra will contribute the technology it has developed for the sector with innovation in mind. SESCAM, in turn, will contribute the experience of its professionals who will sketch the scope of the project and its customisation taking into account real facts of Castilla-La Mancha healthcare, defining the pathologies, profile of patients and the information to be controlled.

These experiences are expected to provide the bases to fully extent it to all patients with a certain pathology or the group of pathologies which can be monitorised from the patient’s residence. The agreement seeks to improve the management of chronic patients and their quality of life, streamline costs or educate citizens in terms of health.

With Indra’s technology the chronic patient can be watched over by the doctors. For this the patient will be equipped with the necessary devices depending on the pathology (glucose meter, pulse oximeter, etc.). These will be connected via PC, PDA 30G or mobile, and will inform about the condition of the patient with the frequency established by the doctors.

Similarly, the doctor can also inform the patient about changes in the treatment or suggestions and so on. Both the doctor and the patient can gain access to the information through internet and the data considered significant can be included in the patient’s medical record

SESCAM technology partner

With this agreement Indra’s position as SESCAM technology partner is reinforced. They have cooperated before in the development of the Ykonos programme which has become a milestone in the segment of medical digital imaging. Thanks to it, reports and digital imaging can be exchanged over the regional health network.

On the other hand, Castilla-La Mancha, in cooperation with Indra, was the first autonomous region to complete the implementation of the Breast CAD, a system which assists in the diagnose in presence of possible injuries and gives a second opinion to specialists. The hospitals of Toledo and Guadalajara are also equipped with kidney and lung CAD systems.

In addition to this, the company, in cooperation with SESCAM, started up a Centre of Excellence which displays Ykonos, Castilla-La Mancha’s medical digital imaging and other technology projects. It also collaborates with Rafael Del Pino Foundation and the National Paraplegic Hospital of Toledo in the development of TOyRA (Occupational Therapy and Augmented Reality). This initiative seeks to improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries through a virtual rehabilitation system.
