Indra to deliver air traffic management radar systems to Brazil for over USD 4 M

Indra will deliver to the Brazilian Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA) two portable radar systems (MSSR Mode S) to back up civil air traffic management. The contract, won in international tender competing with the sector's main companies, is around USD 4 M and is to be concluded this year.
This is the first contract of Indra with the commission in charge of the modernisation of the air traffic management infrastructures in Brazil. It is a significant boost to the company's presence in Latin America where it holds a consolidated position as an ATM systems provider.

In order to meet the requirements established by CISCEA Indra customised its secondary radar Mode S (MSSR Mode S) to a 200 NM portable version, including a 12 meters high deployable tower. The solution can be transported by road or on board a Hercules C-130 aircraft.
Indra's systems will reinforce the surveillance of the air space during special events such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic games- which will be hosted by Brazil- and in emergency situations where the existing infrastructures can be affected. Indra will help CISCEA in the maintenance and modernisation of its radar surveillance network without detriment to the service.
As stated in the agreement and in terms of technology transfer, Indra will undertake the training and counseling in air traffic management technologies for the Commission. This type of infrastructures is especially important to the country since due to its geographical location its is a key corridor for many routes between Europe and Latin America.

Expansion in Latin America

This first ATM contract in Brazil reinforces Indra's leadership in the sector in Latin America. The company has collaborated with the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA) and has implemented the systems which manage the upper air space of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Belize. Besides this, the control centres and airports of most of these countries are equipped with Indra's technology which facilitates sharing information and coordination.
On the other hand, Indra is engaged in the start up of the new air traffic control centre in Lima, Peru and is also deploying an MSSR Mode S radar surveillance network which will cover almost the whole Peruvian air space. In addition, Indra has modernised many air traffic management infrastructures in Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay.
