Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading multinational in Europe was awarded a contract to manage the basic IT services and systems of Ecopetrol, Colombia's largest company and the fourth oil company in Latin America. With this contract, the Spanish multinational reinforces its leadership in the Latin American market of utilities and energy with provision of services to the main companies of the sector.

The project has an execution period of four years and comprises the operation, support and maintenance of the software structure and over 400 financial, administrative and business applications of the oil company. The IT company will also undertake the management of the hardware infrastructure and of the data processing centres. 

The contract establishes provision of the services to all Ecopetrol’s offices in Colombia although it could be extended for the entire Group at a national and international level. This way, Indra’s position as a technology partner of Ecopetrol is reaffirmed after a collaboration which dates back to 2008.

In 2009 the company signed an agreement in temporary consortium with the local firm PSL to provide services of evolutive maintenance and development of new applications for the Colombian oil company from Indra’s Sotware Lab in Bogota. The Spanish company also implemented in Ecopetrol the ETRM system (Energy Trading & Risk Management), which is a powerful tool for the management of energy operations conducted by the company’s international commerce management.

Ecopetrol will have a proficient unified management model which offers the possibility to optimise resources, reduce costs at the same time it improves quality of the service.

Besides reinforcing its leadership in the Latin American market of energy and utilities, this contract strengthens Indra’s position as an IT services strategic supplier for large corporations. Among the most recent projects in this area we can mention: management and operation of Grupo Prisa IT division for 260 million Euros and the development and support of Endesa’s corporate and management systems in Spain and Latin America for 70 million Euros. Besides this, the IT company provides support and maintenance services to Gas Natural Fenosa in Spain and Latin America as well as to other outstanding firms of the telecommunications and finance sectors.
 
Ecopetrol is a private-public partnership whose main line of business is the exploration, production, transport, refining and commercialization of hydrocarbons. It runs 100 oil and gas producing fields and other 120 additionally, in association with other companies. The company employs 6,600 workers and has its own 5,559 km network of pipelines and poliduct for the transportation of hydrocarbons from the production centres to the refineries, ports or consumption centres.
