  • Indra'sBoth  companies have started up a co-joint initiative of Daas (Desktop as a Service) hosted on I Indra's Cloud centre servers  to provide clients with a virtualised and customised version of their workstations with minimum investment

Indra, the number one IT multinational in Spain and one of the major ones in Europe and Latin America, and NEC Corporation, a leading telecommunications & IT service provider, with its global hub for the Cloud business, NEC Iberica, today announced the launch of a cloud user management solution, which will give a broad variety of innovative services and mobility to companies in all the countries both companies operate in.

The Desktop as a Service (DaaS) model offers a thorough map of functionalities for the different types of virtual desktops and associated services. Access to the virtual workstation can be gained through any device for a monthly fee. The infrastructure (hardware and software) and the technology solution will be exclusively supplied by NEC, while the professional consultancy services, operation, exploitation and hosting will be delivered by Indra.

This project will be undertaken by NEC's Cloud Competence Centre in Madrid. It  attends the EMEA region and  offers platforms for the development of new cutting-edge and added value services based on Cloud Computing.

Indra, on the other hand, announced in mid 2011 the development of a proprietary Cloud Computing model which provides services on demand to clients. The DaaS initiative is therefore within the framework of its strategy of advanced delivery on-demand modality, called Flex-IT. Flex-IT is based on the premise that IT management requires a combination of traditional and virtual models integrated in private and/or public "clouds". This delivery model, more advanced when compared to the traditional modality, represents a significant change in the way outsourcing services are provided as it offers immediate access in record time regardless of location and charges only apply  in the event of consumption.

The DaaS centre makes possible centralization of desktops in a shared infrastructure, vitualised and secure instead of the traditional distribution. This way, the solution offers a significant reduction of operational costs and maintenance and at the same time represents a permanent technological upgrade with minimum investment.

The solution can be adapted to the different user profiles as the elements and professional services of each workstation can be configured. It is also compatible with the current infrastructures of each client which simplifies the switch to the Cloud Computing model.
The DaaS Cloud services centre has all the advantages of centralization: unified control and management of desktops and applications; security and absolute data protection, faster provision of services to final users and more availability of desktops.

As Jaime Serrano, Chairman of NEC Iberica, stated: “The DaaS Cloud centre takes mobility to its full potential as desktops can be accessed via multiple devices (PC, thin Client, tablets, Smartphones, …) from any location at any time. Besides this, the user's experience meets the next level, and enhances the quality and efficiency of every desktop”.

Santiago Roura, Indra's General Director of Operations, pointed out: “The workstation  is one of the main pillars within Indra's strategy of helping its clients make the most of the Cloud. We are witnessing a fast evolution of how people have access to contents and applications, including those provided by their companies, therefore, the workstation should also evolute at the same pace. In Indra we are adapting our model of workstatio management services to tackle this challenge and we rely on NEC as our best partner to tread this path“.

Reduction of expenses, the best policies and focus on the business are the main advantages the Cloud model, started up by Indra and NEC, has to offer to companies.
