1 March 2012Spain

PDAs will be distributed across both autonomous communities to provide 100% coverage to the data transmissions from the polling places

Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe and Latin America, has been commissioned once again by the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Government of the Principality of Asturias the technology deployment for the provisional scrutiny of the regional elections to be held on March 25th. Around 6, 400, 000 Andalusians, the country's highest census; and nearly 1 million Asturians are expected to vote.

The technology multinational will employ once again the PDA technology to transmit the electoral data from the polling places to the information processing centre. Regarding Andalusia, over 5,100 devices will be deployed in addition to 700 in Asturias. In both cases, the devices will provide coverage to the 100% of voters. PDAs expedite the scrutiny, increase the quality of the data to be transmitted as they incorporate additional controls at the polling places, eliminates repetitive tasks and automates information transmission.

Besides this, Indra will create an elections portal for each event (www.eleccionesparlamentoandalucia2012.es and www.elecciones2012.asturias.es ) to answer possible doubts about the elections: vote by email, CERA vote, accessible vote, rules and legislation or information about the procedures for citizens to perform their duties as polling station officers or administration representatives, among others.

Citizens will also be able to access the provisional results website on election day through the above-mentioned electoral portals.
Indra has been awarded once more the contract for the scrutiny of the Andalusian elections, an electoral process which the company has delivered since 1982.

On the other hand, the IT company also provided technological support to the Asturian elections in 2011.
