Indra displays its state-of-the-art defence and security systems in Brazil

Indra will be present at LAAD, the main event in Latin America for the Defence and Security sector, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro from 9 to 12 April. The multinational technological and consulting firm will display the state-of-the-art solutions it has developed to back the missions of Armed and Security Forces.

The company attends this event as a leader in the roll-out of coastal surveillance systems in Europe. More than 5,000 km of borders throughout the world are controlled using technology of the company that leads the European Perseus programme for safeguarding the continent's coasts.

In terms of airspace surveillance, the company will offer information from its Lanza 3D radars, which are currently in service in Uruguay and have been guaranteeing south western European airspace for more than 10 years. In this field, Indra is already well-known in Brazil, where in 2012 it delivered two MSSR (Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar System) transportable radar stations for DECEA, the Ministry of Defence entity responsible for air traffic control.

It will also display a reproduction of its new MRI P2006T maritime surveillance and intelligence aircraft, for which the development was recently completed. The system offers the highest detection capabilities for the lowest acquisition and operation price available on the market. It includes an electro-optical camera, radar and an AIS vessel identification system.

The company will also display a reproduction of its Mantis unmanned tactical aircraft, which is easily deployed and can monitor an area with a 30 km radius. It will also provide information about the Pelicano UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) helicopter, which has a range of approximately 150 km.

To strengthen the protection of vessels, vehicles and aircraft, Indra will present its wide array of electronic defence systems, which the company has implemented in more than 20 different platforms, including the A400M and the Eurofighter.

It will also transfer its extensive remote sensing experience in the area of systems development (such as for the GMES, Paz or Ingenio programmes) as well as for supplying images that provide the necessary intelligence for planning roll-outs or responding to emergencies.

The company's stand will also contain a satellite communication system for submarines that it has already delivered to the German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese Navies. In the area of satellite communication, Indra has been working with Brazil's Ministry of Defence to expand and improve its SISCOMIS military communications network. For example, the Sao Paulo aircraft carrier, the nation's flagship, uses Indra systems.

LAAD attendees will also be able to discover Indra solutions for counteracting Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats. This aspect is a top priority for many governments. Indra has systems that cover all the phases involved in this type of event.

Lastly, the company will provide information at the fair about its simulation systems. Indra is one of the global leaders in this field and it has delivered more than 200 simulators in 19 countries for 51 customers. Proof of this is that the company has led the Eurofigher simulator development programme and it has delivered its systems to the US Navy. It has also set up the FAMET, Spanish Army Airmobile Forces, training centre for Chinook, Cougar and Tiger pilots. Indra is currently working with AgustaWestland on the development of AW159 Lynx Wildcat simulators for the UK and it is one of the top Eurocopter providers and is developing a EC320 helicopter simulator to be installed in Brazil.

Secure cities

Another area that is currently awakening an increased amount of interest and in which Indra is a pioneer is the field of management systems for emergencies and major events. Currently, cities such as Buenos Aires and Madrid manage safety using the company's command & control systems. Indra has also implemented the SIMGE system that uses the Spanish Military Emergency Unit to manage its interventions.
