The Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a world leader in quality certification and best practices in software development, has rated the software development capabilities of the Indra Center of Excellence for Security in León (Spain) with a maturity level of 5. This is the highest level within the CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) model used by this institute.
The Formal Evaluation Process (SCAMPI) was conducted by a team composed of representatives of Indra trained in High Maturity guided by a Lead Appraisal authorized for such software assessments (levels 4 and 5).
This process involved revising the definition of processes, analysis of evidence generated by the projects/systems and a set of interviews with the teams involved in organizing them (leadership, management, systems engineering, development engineering, testing, configuration, quality, safety and training, etc.) As this is a high level of maturity, this process was subsequently audited in the United States by the SEI, which deemed that it had met the criteria.
Only 9 other companies in Spain currently have level CMMI5. Organizations with a High Maturity level are characterized by the fact they set quantitative targets in terms of performance and quality of processes and use them as criteria in managing projects.
To do so, detailed process performance measurements are collected and statistically analyzed, which enables their behavior to be predicted and consequently serves as support for fact-based decision-making. Furthermore, activities are measured to improve processes, removing and adding activities and rearranging their structure.
Safety-related products that are directly applied in different areas of Indra are developed by the León Center of Excellence for Security. These products are subject to stringent civilian and military regulatory standards. Highlights include Neptune, which is the recording solution used in air traffic management systems, communications, navigation and surveillance (ATM/CNS), and the collaboration that takes place with the company's simulation area, in both firing simulators and flight trainers. Other areas of work of the CES are related to detecting forest fires, radioactivity, laser spectroscopy, geolocation and radiofrequency.
Management System certifications provide Indra, vis-à-vis its customers, with evidence of the effectiveness of the management and quality of its products and processes, making it a differentiating factor compared to its competitors.
