InVITALRAIL ASFA
ATP security technology for the control and automatic protection of railway traffic. Integrable with any signaling system, it offers continuous speed and automatic braking supervision if the train does not observe existing signaling conditions. It offers onboard indications about the status of the signaling and the infrastructure, and provides continuous real-time supervision of the speed of the train and the actions of the engineer regarding the indications received.
InVITALRAIL ASFA consists of two main components:
- InVITALRAIL ASFA-WAY, track components for independently determining the status of the signaling
- InVITALRAIL ASFA-OBU, equipment onboard the train that reads the track information and controls and supervises the speed of the train in real time so that it can adapt to the infrastructure status at all times
InVITALRAIL ASFA-WAY
Track equipment to permit independent and non-intrusive connection with the signaling systems that exist in the infrastructure. Mainly connected to the light-signaling devices of the railway network, the system identifies the authorization status of the signal and codes and converts it into information that is sent to the train through resonating beacons installed on the track, which are read by the onboard InVITALRAIL ASFA-OBU system when the train passes over them.
InVITALRAIL ASFA-WAY is a latest-generation solution that is totally independent and integrable with any railway signaling. It uses non-intrusive methods to detect the light-signaling status and eliminate the effects of the interlocking installed in the network, thus avoiding complex actions and minimizing installation and deployment costs. It is a very reliable solution with the highest SIL4 security level that can operate independently as a backup system for the most advanced train control systems. It also permits increased travel speeds (like the ERTMS for example), thus providing the railway infrastructure with the highest level of security even in abnormal situations.
InVITALRAIL ASFA-OBU
Onboard equipment responsible for reading the signals from the track systems through antennae installed on the train, supervising its travel speed and converting these signals for the engineer, in addition to supervising the actions and acknowledgments of the indications issued by the system, engaging the emergency brake when the train's speed or the actions of the engineer do not match the signaling status of the infrastructure.
InVITALRAIL ASFA-OBU is mainly based on the main vital processing system, SIL4 certified, responsible for vital functions and system security (supervision of speed, brake application, reading and processing infrastructure information, issuing signals, supervising actions, etc.), and the DMI system for information, signals and actions of the engineer, SIL2 certified, composed of the display, indicators and actuators installed on the engineer control panel.
The InVITALRAIL ASFA-OBU system is designed according to the ADIF specifications listed in the document "Technical and Functional Specifications of the Onboard ASFA Digital System" of ADIF, version July 3, 2012. The Indra solution currently protects the ASFA mode travel in over 450 trains and locomotives from different operators that use the Spanish railway network.
