The Madrid branch of the National Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI Comunidad de Madrid) has awarded us the 2016 PRODIS Prize, R&D&I category, for helping to empower people with disabilities by developing innovative solutions and services to facilitate their inclusion and access to technology.
CERMI has long expressed its gratitude for the efforts made by different sectors to promote the participation and inclusion of people with disabilities. To this end, the Madrid branch of the committee has introduced a series of awards, known as PRODIS, which serve as a vehicle of recognition for society's solidarity with the objectives championed by the representatives of people with disabilities in the region of Madrid.
On this occasion CERMI Comunidad de Madrid has granted us the 2016 PRODIS Award, R&D&I category, for helping to empower people with disabilities by developing innovative solutions and services to facilitate inclusion and access to technology. Indra's Accessible Technologies initiative aims to foster the social and labor market inclusion of people with disabilities by developing innovative technological solutions in collaboration with foundations, universities and knowledge institutions. The initiative was launched more than 16 years ago and 50 projects have been completed to date. In this particular field there are nine active university-business research chairs (seven with universities and different foundations in Spain and two in Latin America).
Some of the solutions developed have been extremely successful. For example, HeadMouse and VirtualKeyboard, free applications controlled with the head, have been downloaded more than 450,000 times in 95 countries.
Our accessible technologies have received worldwide acclaim. The 20 awards granted to date include two Ability awards and the Solidarity Company prize at the 19th edition of the Codespa Awards in recognition of our social action through the Accessible Technologies initiative in Latin America in 2017.
