- The company is to create and equip the new control center, which will supervise and control the highway's 152 kilometers, tolls and tunnels between Bucaramanga and Barrancabermeja, ensuring the highest safety standards and service quality
- With its solutions Mova Traffic, Mova Collect, Mova Protect and Mova Comms, Indra will cover all the technological needs for the operation and financial management of this concession, which connects the country's northeast region with its main oil producing centers
- Indra reinforces its position as a technological partner of the most modern Colombian highways and as one of the world's leading technology companies in large transport infrastructures, with projects in more than 50 countries
Indra, one of the leading multinational technology and consulting companies, has been awarded a contract for the Ruta del Cacao Concession for the amount of approximately 10.5 million euros, winning out over important international firms. It shall be supplying all the traffic management technology, intelligent transport systems (ITS), communications and toll systems for the Bucaramanga-Barrancabermeja-Yondó highway.
With its solutions Mova Traffic, Mova Collect, Mova Protect and Mova Comms, Indra will cover all the technological requirements needed to run the operation and financial management of the roadway, known as the Ruta del Cacao, whose 152 kilometers unite the capital of Santander Department with the country's main oil production centers. Thanks to its proven technology and experience, the company will guarantee compliance with the strictest international standards of safety and service quality, and at the same time provide effective and efficient management.
Indra will create a new control center which will fully supervise and control all the smart transport, safety and toll collection systems for the highway, both along the outdoor section of the roadway and its two tunnels, 34 viaducts and four toll stations.
It will all be possible thanks to Indra's Horus integrated traffic and tunnel management platform and the line of Mova Traffic solutions, which provide operators with information in real time and single vision of everything occurring on the highway, thus optimizing operations and decision making. The solution also has an Automatic Incident Detection System (AID), which integrates information from cameras and sensors, and sends alerts automatically to the control center in the event of an incident or emergency, in a way that reduces its time to resolution and increases user safety.
There are also variable signage systems for increased safety, as these provide drivers with information in real time on road conditions, the safe distance between vehicles, speed limits or current incidents.
Swift and secure collection management
Indra will also provide the highway with its toll solution, Mova Collect. It will include electronic tolls, which will allow vehicles to pass through without stopping, at speeds of up to 80 kilometers an hour, and manual payment systems with toll collectors. On the other hand, the weighing systems will make vehicle classification easier, while the back-office system provides quick and secure management of collections and income tracking.
The project also includes the necessary communications systems, Mova Comms; security systems, Mova Protect; and intelligent traffic systems (ITS): closed circuit television systems (CCTV), traffic counters, road signage, SOS posts, incident detection, lighting control, a loudspeaker system and ventilation control., with anemometers, luminance meters, opacimeters, and CO/NO/NO2 detectors inside the tunnels, among other systems.
Partner for more advanced transport projects
This contract for the Bucaramanga-Barrancabermeja-Yondó highway strengthens Indra's position as a technological partner of the most advanced highways in Colombia. The Ruta del Cacao will reduce by one hour the connection time between Bucaramanga and the oil port, meaning a journey of less than two hours for private vehicles and under three for heavy-duty transport. This is one of the so-called Fourth Generation of highways in Colombia, one of the most ambitious programs with the greatest investment in history in terms of the country's infrastructure, which also allows Indra to position itself as a possible technology provider for other roadways.
In Colombia, Indra has already deployed its solution for the integrated and centralized traffic and tunnel management in the two-lane Bogotá-Villavicencio highway and the Parques del Río tunnel in Medellín, as part of the city's most important sustainable urban development project. Indra has also development the integrated mobility solution of Medellín and has implemented its toll systems in Colombia, specifically on the Los Llanos highways, the Café and Devisab highways, among others.
This project also consolidates Indra as one of the leading companies in the world in cutting-edge transport technology, with references in over 50 countries and capacity to carry out more ambitious and complex projects.
Indra's renewed offer for Transports, Indra Mova Solutions, covers the entire life cycle of its clients' projects: from engineering and consulting to collection, operation and control, security and communications solutions, plus traveler experience or aftermarket services. The proposal combines the new digital and integration capabilities, specialization and innovation demanded by the market with Indra’s reliability, business know-how, transportation-specific technology, and the unique experience of its team of professionals.
