Project Description
SCOTT: Secure COnnected Trustable Things will provide comprehensive cost-efficient solutions of wireless, end-to-end secure trustworthy connectivity and interoperability to bridge the last mile to market implementation. SCOTT will not deal with just 'things that are connected', but 'trustable things that are connected', i.e. things interconnected by dependable wireless technology and valuing the end-users' privacy rules.
SCOTT bundles the European key players from several industrial domains including building and home / smart infrastructure, automotive, aeronautics, rail, and health to make full potential of cross-domain synergies and to strengthen Europe's position in the emerging technology field of secure IoT.

Indra's Role
Within SCOTT, Indra will focus on the creation and exploitation of market potential and the gain of a competitive technology advantage on wireless solutions that are developed for the Rail domain in various areas:
- Affordable safety solutions for low density railway lines, where the previous lack of network infrastructure makes necessary to have a workable system to compensate for the safety deficiencies at certain points of a railway line (critical areas). By means of the proposed solution, zones such as level crossing, road crossing, works zones, etc. could be protected without using traditional cabling systems.
- Solutions for virtual coupling train sets based on safety-related vehicle to vehicle wireless communication technology and WSN´s that save time performing manoeuvre coupling and uncoupling and improve their efficiency and the traffic operation. Approaching to a significant increase of the potential capacity of the rail lines and the interoperability that can be only be achieve by using the proposed wireless solution.
- - Monitoring of railway ontrack and onboard infrastructure via wireless technology for logistics and maintenance application and their integration with cloud-based platforms, enabling the future development of multiple applications at a low cost, contributing to the improvement of the interoperability reducing too the silo-effect in the deployement of new rail services.
Indra together with the entire Rail domain will strongly benefit from the major contributions that these solutions will offer since they are compatible with the current legacy infrastructures allowing an easy adoption by the rail stake holders.
Indra will develop different testbeds for testing the previous solutions and, in particular, the use of smart integration platforms that are aimed to achieve a high level of interoperability. The smart integration platforms can be provided with enhanced wireless communication capabilities, computing capabilities to support innovative applications, data fusion capabilities, or can also be part of a cloud environment. Safety and security aspects will be also of key relevance during the specification, development and further assessment of these smart platforms allowing Indra to increase its knowledge and practical skills in those particular fields.
