Indra triggers a 30% leap in its score on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, redoubling its global leadership in sustainability

Indra has reached a milestone within the grasp of only a handful of companies in the world: staying fifteen straight years on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World, the world’s leading sustainability index, to which more and more companies around the globe aspire and which is renewed each year with ever stricter requirements.

The DJSI selects 10% of the most sustainable listed companies from among the world’s 2,500 largest companies whose good performance positions them as the most socially responsible, which means staying on the list of chosen firms is a challenge. Despite the fiercer competition and ever stricter requirements, Indra has not only succeeded in remaining on this ranking for 15 consecutive years since its entry in 2006; this year it is placed at the top of the companies in the Software and Services industry, just one point from becoming sector leader.

Indra has managed to push its overall score up by 19 points, nearly 30% higher than last year’s rating, and has improved in all the evaluated criteria considered most significant in the eyes of investors, except in fiscal responsibility, an area in which it had already stood out with a score far above average.

These excellent results consolidate Indra as one of the leading companies in sustainability on a world scale, an acknowledgement of the highest order from the investment community, which takes its decisions based on this sustainability criteria. It is quite an achievement, one that places a high value on the efforts the company has been making in recent years to put sustainability at the focal point of its strategy; contribute to responding, through technology, to the sustainable development challenges of Agenda 2030; pave the way for the transition to a low-carbon economy; and give a boost to its positive impact on people and the planet.

In the 2020 edition, Indra is among the 8 companies included in the Software and Services sector, one of the five European firms in the industry. It is also one of the 16 Spanish companies that have secured a place on the Dow Jones World Sustainability Index.

The assessment made by the SAM analysis agency, part of S&P, to choose the companies that achieve a place in the DJSI World is singled out time and again as one of the world’s highest quality ratings, according to the analysis of SustainAbility. In addition, it is releasing the results of its assessments in ever greater detail, which allows stakeholders to have a clearer vision of which companies are leaders in the sector on a global scale.

At the top of the technology sector

In the DJSI World, Indra sits clearly among the top technology firms in Software and Services. The company leads the industry in social aspects, standing far above its counterparts in all the aspects assessed, such as talent management, human rights and social action initiatives. It obtains the highest ratings in areas such as innovation management, privacy guarantees, social and environmental reporting, fiscal strategy, policy influence, labor practices and talent development.

The company thus sees the fruits of its efforts in the ongoing improvement of its corporate governance and commitment to the environment, as well as in transforming its corporate culture, putting people at the focal point of strategy, promoting innovation, diversity, flexibility, the training and development among its professionals, and regulatory compliance, among others. In terms of the environment and the fight against climate change, there are plenty of examples of Indra’s solutions that make an impact on areas such as sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, less-polluting cities and environmental protection.

In addition to forming part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World, Indra has recently reiterated its presence on the FTSE4Good, another of the leading indexes when it comes to evaluating companies’ corporate responsibility, which complements its leadership in sustainability. For the second straight year, Indra has succeeding in attaining the highest rating in corporate governance and anti-corruption measures, in which its performance was considered a “best practice”, and a noteworthy score in its fight against climate change, risk management and labor standards.

Ambitious Sustainability Master Plan

Despite this success, Indra continues to strive towards strengthening its leadership in sustainability and turning this into a strategic and differential factor. It has designed a new and ambitious Sustainability Master Plan for 2020-2023 which aims to reinforce its responsible governance model, promote technology having an impact on sustainable development and contribute actively to combating climate change and protecting the environment. It also aims to strengthen its relations with different stakeholders, such as professionals, investors, clients, partners, suppliers and society at large, providing for the creation of long-term value for them all and fostering a fluid, transparent dialogue.

To achieve this goal, the Plan establishes a total of 28 specific initiatives encompassed in seven pillars, with KPIs and detailed indicators to measure the baseline and progress. The pillars are: Good Governance, Ethics and Transparency; the Planet and Climate Change; People and Talent; Society and Commitment to the Community; Offering Technology with an Impact; Stakeholder Relations and Cultural Transformation.
