Description of the Project
The MOTIONAL project will improve the planning and operational management of services and offers, so that the future European rail system will be interoperable, resilient, able to adapt capacity and to integrate all services involved, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by digitisation.
By developing functional requirements, associated specifications and operational or technological solutions, and exploiting the potential of digitalisation, MOTIONAL will pave the way towards the implementation of the future European Rail Traffic Management System to make rail the backbone of a multimodal transport system for passengers and freight.
Thus, MOTIONAL’s planned activities are developed along 2 main lines:
- The first Workstream focuses on planning and exploitation activities (dealing with the future interactively linked timetable planning and operational traffic management systems) and Integration activities (dealing with railway services to offer door-to-door mobility.
- The second Workstream will deliver a set of digital enablers for all Europe’s Rail Destinations (i.e.“transversal”) to support the development of destination-specific digitalization solutions as Digitalization is a fundamental transformational process encompassing the Rail System as a whole.
Industrial Partner
Indra´s Rol
Indra brings to the project its know-how and experience in offering technological solutions in transportation networks and is highly involved in different activities such as:
- develop algorithms capable of making automated decisions, also supporting decisions that favour the optimisation of traffic management to enable the automatic detection and resolution of conflicts.
- carry out different developments to integrate the train with other modes of transport through the development of standardised interfaces, as well as solutions for inclusive mobility by providing guidance within stations seamless validation.
- work on aligning development for the proper integration of TMS (Ticket Management Systems) and processes, including cross-border traffic management, by developing interfaces from the TMS to the C-DAS operating system on the road, focusing on speed profile functionalities.
- anticipate demand leading to better resource utilisation, Indra will work on the development of long-term multimodal passenger flow technology, managing strategic mobility for disruption management, and will also develop interfaces from the communication platform to the on-track C-DAS operation system, focusing on speed profile functionalities.
Finally, it should be noted that, in addition to the work mentioned above, Indra will support the other partners in most of the project activities and will be the main responsible for the technical coordination of the glossary management at project level.
