Incheon, the primary gateway to the Republic of Korea and one Asia’s largest airports, is now operational with Indra’s state-of-the-art instrument landing systems (ILS) on all four runways. This follows a contract awarded to Indra in 2023 for the provision of its advanced Normarc ILS, distance measuring equipment (DME) and DVOR (Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Range). The systems contribute to safe air navigation during the approach and landing.

Located outside of Seoul, Incheon is ranked third on Skytrax’ prestigious list of the world’s best airports which had more than 56 million passengers in 2023. As a category III airport, it remains operational even in low visibility conditions, where pilots depend on the instrument landing system to safely guide aircraft to landing on the runway.

Indra’s systems were chosen based on their exceptional performance and reliability in all weather conditions, meeting the Korean aviation authority’s high requirements for safety, integrity, and operational efficiency. Indra has solid competence in air navigation systems, having successfully delivered some of the world’s most complex airports.

In addition to being the sole provider of air navigation systems, Indra’s radars and air traffic management systems support Incheon’s air traffic controllers in managing arriving and departing flights, as well as ground movements at the terminal and runway areas. Indra also plays a crucial role in enhancing flight safety and efficiency at other airports throughout the Republic of Korea.

Indra’s technology can also be found in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, where it has recently signed contracts to renew the air traffic management’s systems in countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia. In addition, it has deployed its advanced automation solution in three of the four control centres that manage India's airspace, one of the busiest skies in Asia, and is already operating in countries such as Mongolia and the Philippines as well.
