Diraya

Indra has won a support and development contract for all healthcare information systems used by the Andalusian Healthcare Service (SAS in its Spanish acronym), worth 11 million euros. The contract award comes as part of the SAS' drive to unify contracts and thus gain greater efficiency.

In practice, the consulting and technology multinational will now be the sole provider of maintenance and development services for Diraya, the system used by the Andalusia healthcare service to manage electronic clinical records and healthcare services. More than 100 Indra staff, most of them working at the multinational's 'Digital Healthcare Excellence Center' in Seville, will work on the project, with the support of the 'Malaga Software Lab'.

Indra will thus provide support to all modules of the region's digital medical records, specialized care and hospital care services, as well as information systems for diagnostic imaging. Also included are regional coordination systems for transplants in Andalusia and hospital pharmacies.

By unifying services in a single contract the Andalusian healthcare system will optimize financial resources and more efficiently manage services and technological tools.

Diraya, a global benchmark

Diraya, developed by SAS in partnership with Indra, is one of the few information systems anywhere in the world capable of catering to the requirements of regional healthcare systems. It currently oversees more than 8,000,000 clinical records (95% of the population) and provides support to more than 100,000 healthcare professionals.

The system compiles full patient information, regardless of which healthcare professional or department generates the same, in a single healthcare record that is permanently available anyplace and anytime.  The system allows citizens to access their medical records and healthcare services via multiple channels. Meanwhile, the platform helps professionals to manage patient flows in order to efficiently coordinate all diagnosis and treatment procedures.

Diraya has been deployed at 1,395 primary healthcare centers and 27 hospital areas in Andalusia. Each month the system is used to respond to 200,000 emergency care events, while providing more than six million prescriptions and eight million e-prescriptions. The platform is also used to manage more than seven million appointments each month in both primary and specialized care via a number of different channels: in person, via telephone, internet and SMS.

Technological partner in the digitalization of regional healthcare systems

The new contract consolidates Indra as one of the Andalusian public healthcare system's technological partners, jointly driving forward initiatives to improve healthcare management and citizen services. As well as developing Diraya, which paved the way for use of digital healthcare records in Andalusia, the company has also deployed an e-prescription platform, allowing Andalusians to get their medications at any pharmacy in the region simply by presenting their healthcare card. It has also developed mobile medical record systems in Andalusia, the first project of this kind in Spain, providing access to electronic medical records via tablets fitted in ambulances.

The company also helped set up the 'Salud Responde' ("Healthcare Responds") information and services center, focusing on public healthcare from an innovative perspective. This allows individuals to access the services provided by the Andalusian public healthcare system from anywhere in the region via a number of different channels, such as telephone, SMS, email and mobile app.

Indra has also been actively involved in developing regional healthcare systems in other Spanish provinces. The multinational supported deployment of electronic medical records in the region of Valencia and for the Galician healthcare service (SERGAS). In Galicia it also partners with Telefonica on 'Hogar Digital Asistencial', the Galician government's technological healthcare and homecare system, the first project of its kind in Spain.

Indra is also a technological partner of SESCAM in the development of YKONOS, the first comprehensive digital medical imaging initiative in Spain, while it is also spearheading use of e-prescriptions in the country, with systems successfully deployed in Aragon, Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Madrid, Murcia, Valencia, La Rioja and Galicia, as well as the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
