  • The Asociación de Operadores para la Portabilidad Móvil commissioned the IT company the development of a centralised service for more effective management of portability of more than 30 operators
  • Spain is the country with the highest amount of portability requests within the European Union

The Asociación de Operadores para la Portabilidad Móvil (AOPM) awarded Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, the development, implementation, maintenance and operation of the Central Node of mobile portability operations (the registry where mobile portability is centralised).

The project amounts to € 4.7 m and the system is expected to enter service by February 2010. Besides this, the IT company will also undertake the maintenance, operation and exploitation of the service for three years through its data centre.

Indra devised a technological platform with SOA-based architecture that guarantees security of the application as well as functional and operational scalability.

Currently, the mobile portability solution works through a distributed model. For a portability operation, the recipient operator must make the necessary arrangements with the donor. All operators, including donors and recipients must followup the process in order to update information regarding ported numbers.

Using the new model, the donor must apply to the Central Portability Node for the request and the transition and in turn, the Central Node will provide operators with the updates to the database of ported numbers.

On the other hand, the Entidad de Referencia del Fijo-who is in charge of the landline portability-and The Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT) will be able to access relevant information at all times.

Spain, at the head of portability

For Indra, the project is a relevant reference as more than 18 million users who have gone through mobile number portability make of Spain a leading country in this sector within the European Union.

Competition in the Spanish telephony market is one of the most aggressive worldwide. Currently, the penetration index in this market rises above 111% with four network operators (Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo), as well as 26 virtual mobile operators. This situation makes these companies to focus their strategy on client acquisition from the competition.

Indra has a lot of experience in services and in the development of solutions for the telecommunications market, where the company has developed systems for mobile operators with client portfolios exceeding 200 million users. The company’s offers range from business and operation support systems, management services for production companies, satellite communications stations and IT infrastructures. The company is also strongly positioned in the Terrestrial Digital Television (TDT) Services sub sector with offers that cover from consultancy projects to development of applications for interactive services.

Among Indra’s most important clients we can mention: Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange, British Telecom, Marcatel, R Ono, Bogota’s Telecommunications company (ETB), el Grupo RTVE, Antena 3, Sogecable, Endemol and Telecinco.

Indra is the premier Information Technology company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe and Latin America. In 2008, revenues reached € 2,380 M, of which a third came from the international market. The company employs more than 29,000 professionals and has clients in more than 90 countries.
