- It is so far the most complex training system due to Tiger's high level of details and technological intricacy
- Indra is also working on the development of another platform of this type for Pizarro vehicles for euros 3,5M
Indra will design and develop the computer-assisted training system and the technical contents to the 300-hour course to prepare mechanics and maintenance technicians of the Tiger helicopter, which is the Armys most complex vehicle. The contract amounts to euros 2,7 M and the delivery will take place progressively until completion in 2010. This project adds up to the development of the 600-hour computer-assisted platform for the Pizarro vehicles which amounts to euros 3,7 M and is to be concluded in 2011.
The training system for the Tiger helicopters will allow a level of analysis and study that has never been accomplished before. For instance, it will be possible to virtually dismount the device completely, an action which has never been accomplished due to costs and to the detriment it represents to the vehicle.
Through 3D simulations and video, technicians and mechanics will be able to visualize how complex systems work, such as the hydraulic and electric systems and hence analyse their behaviour during flight. By means of simulations students will try the helicopter's responses by changing variables that affect a specific system. They will also be able to visualise the information shown to the pilot and to study breakdowns that might occur during the flight.
The information will be shown in double screens; one of them will display how a system works and the other will show either support information or how another system works.
The trainer will be able to design the course and define the contents taking into account level and experience of each group in order to customize the courses. He/she will also know how long each professional takes to fulfil an activity and will also detect the problems that may arise in order to address those issues.
For the development of the platform and the didactic material, Indra set up a multi-discipline team consisting of software developers, engineers specialised in different technologies who define the contents, graph designers and narrators.
Subjects range from avionics and engine of the helicopter to the analysis of each and every system on board such as communications or platform identification among others as well as anything related to security measures and the maintenance of the device.
This project is a continuation of a general course for this helicopter also developed by Indra. Tigre's high tech besides a detailed course makes this project the most comprehensive one ever developed in Spain.
Training for the new Pizarro Vehicle
Indra is also developing a 600-hour computer-assisted platform for the crew and mechanics of Pizarro vehicles of the Spanish Army. Some modules have already been delivered and the remaining ones will be finished before 2011. The entire project awarded in 2005 amounts to € 3, 5M.
Indra is working on the contents related to the latest version of the vehicle under construction which has not yet been launched. This represents an obvious commercial advantage for this training system, since it will be the first high-rate system available in the market.
Indra has cooperated with the Army for 10 years in the application of new technologies to train professionals. The modernisation process and acquisition of new systems and platforms which bring along cutting edge technology make update and specialization compulsory for professionals.
To support them, the company developed along with the Army, computer-assisted training systems for the F-5B pilots, for sonar operators and other systems of the Armada with different platforms, for crew and mechanics of the Leopard 2E battle tank as well as for several FAMET's helicopters.
Besides this, Indra worked in the design and development of the Virtual Corporate University of the Armada, a project that was born in 2002 and which is still in progress. This tool facilitates swift access to information, courses and contents to professionals at the same times it promotes communication.
Indra is the premier Information Technology company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe and Latin America. It is ranked as the second European company in its sector according to stock market capitalisation, and also the second Spanish company with the most investment in R&D. As announced in November last year, Indra expects to close 2008 with revenues above € 2,380 M. The company employs more than 24,000 professionals and has clients in more than 90 countries.
