  • The company will install its e-health system at La Florida Hospital, which aims to become a national reference in the roll-out of advanced solutions in this field
  • The centre is the starting point for Chile's Hospital Tender Awards Programme, a key Government initiative for promoting the expansion and modernisation of the nation's healthcare network
  • This new project represents a major step in the international implementation of Indra's global healthcare solution, which already has important references in Bahrain, the Philippines and Morocco

Indra, one of the leading IT multinationals in Europe and Latin America, has won a €9 million contract with the Servicio de Salud Metropolitano Sur Oriente (SSMSO, the South Eastern Metropolitan Health Service), which forms part of Chile's Ministry of Health, to supply and install its health system (IHS - Indra Heath) at La Florida Hospital. The contract, with a 60-month execution period, also includes technological support and management of the applications.

The solution represents the first integration of IHS - Indra Health with SAP and will make La Florida the first hospital that begins 100% digital operations as part of the Hospital Tender Awards Programme of Chile's Ministry of Health by implementing applications on all healthcare levels: outpatient, emergencies, inpatient and the surgical pavilion, among others, with full healthcare station functionality that will provide content to citizen health records. In addition, the IT multinational will provide applications for support areas such as clinical analysis laboratories, transfusions or pathological anatomy, and support solutions for the hospital's critical units by also integrating vital sign monitors and anaesthesia machines so information may be viewed in real time.

Indra's comprehensive solution also includes the installation of a Business Intelligence tool to support decision making and the SAP ERP system for the financial, supplies, maintenance and patient current account areas. Furthermore, the project will facilitate interoperability with the systems in the Health Service's network and in governmental entities, such as the Fondo Nacional de Salud (FONASA, the National Health Fund) and the Sistema de Información para la Gestión de las Garantías Explícitas en Salud (SIGGES, the Information System for Managing Explicit Health Guarantees). Internationally-known standards that guarantee the integrity and legibility of information will be used for this.

This is a pioneer project in Chile in terms of implementing a global e-health solution in the first hospital that the government has tendered within its hospital awards programme. The aim of this initiative is to promote the expansion and modernisation of the national healthcare network by awarding the construction of facilities and the operation of basic non-clinical services and IT functions of hospitals so the Ministry of Health may focus on the clinical management of the centres.

The Chilean Government plans to tender approximately ten new hospital centres in the next two or three years, so the project that has been awarded to Indra holds a key strategic value in light of the possibility of standardising the nation's e-health solution.

La Florida Hospital will be located in one of the areas with the highest population density in Chile and it will form part of the Servicio Metropolitano Sur-Oriente (South Eastern Metropolitan Service), one of the country's 29 health services. It will also be one of the hospital centres with the most extensive coverage and complexity in its network. It will have a built area of nearly 70,000 m², approximately 400 beds and serve the healthcare needs of a population with more than 390,000 residents. It is scheduled to begin operations in March 2013.

Global leadership in digital health

With this project, the company takes an additional step in exporting its global leadership and experience in the field of digital health. In recent months, the technological multinational has installed IHS-Indra Health at the Makati Medical Centre (MMC), the most important hospital in the Philippines, and it has also been awarded a major project for the Kingdom of Bahrain's Ministries of Healthcare and Defence for the development and global operation of all the network applications in its National Health System, which includes hospitals as well as health centres. Indra's health solution has also been implemented at several hospital centres in Morocco.

Additionally, Indra is the leader in installing and developing applications for Spain's National Health System, with multiple projects in the field of primary and secondary care, electronic prescriptions and digital medical imaging systems, for both public as well as private sectors.

Currently, more than 32 million people in four continents benefit from the solutions and systems developed by Indra in the field of health. The company's solutions are used by more than 100,000 professionals in over 5,600 health centres and hospitals, and make it possible to arrange approximately 500,000 appointments each day.

The technology and knowledge applied at Indra for the healthcare industry are based on its portfolio of Health Solutions, specialised in areas such as telemedicine, digital imaging, electronic prescriptions or electronic medical records, among others. This platform is the result of accumulated experience in developing projects for both private as well as public entities, nationally and internationally.
