  • The Civil Aviation Department entrusts Indra with the project to modernize much of its network of control centers

  • The project includes delivery of air traffic simulation systems for controller training

  • Indra was also awarded the contract to refurbish the tower simulator at the Aeronautical Technical School in Santiago

Indra will implement its air traffic control system in two air route traffic management centers and three local air control centers of the Chilean Civil Aviation Department (DGCA). The company will also deliver air traffic simulation systems for controller training.

The air traffic control centers for the Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas route will use Indra's automated air traffic management system. This solution will provide these centers with a complete view of aircraft movements in the airspace under their responsibility. It will also facilitate early detection of potential conflicts between routes, relieving operators of repetitive tasks.

Indra will also be responsible for renewing the systems in the local control centers of Iquique and Antofagasta and will implement a completely new system in the Concepción local control center. Indra will thus modernize a large part of the country's network of air control centers.

To meet the continuing training needs of air traffic controllers and to familiarize them with the new system, Indra will deliver two simulators of traffic on route, to be installed in Iquique and Puerto Montt.

The company will also refurbish the control tower that it implemented in 1998 at the Aeronautical Technical School in Santiago. The new tower simulator will give a full panoramic view and will have the same equipment as the control centers, ensuring maximum realism in training. Once this system is renewed, the school will regain its leading position in the region.

Following on from its choice of the company, in 2012, to implement a radar system to reinforce surveillance in the area of Concepción, the Civil Aviation Department reaffirms its trust in Indra with the award of these new projects.
