- The country's two main airports will use an Indra system to control their ground operations

- The company will implement the solution that will administer the entire air navigation service provider business

Indra will equip the Kenyan air navigation service provider, KAA, with technology to improve its business operations. The company will implement a system that will streamline planning of terminal operations at the Jomo Kenyatta (Nairobi) and Moi (Mombasa) airports, the country's two largest, and it will launch the new system that will manage KAA's business. Indra will maintain these systems for the next 5 years.

The IT multinational will also handle integration of the new AODB (Airport Operational Database) system with the SAP-based ERP resource management system. This aspect will allow KAA to significantly increase its efficiency by automating a great number of processes.

Operation of an airport requires controlling the movements of aircraft, passengers and baggage, and knowing the status of equipment and infrastructure in terminals. Doing this involves managing a large volume of data. This information makes it possible to properly schedule flights and to assign the needed resources (boarding bridges, vehicles, ground personnel, check-in counters, etc.) to each of them.

The new AODB system will collect and update in real time all data necessary for KAA supervisors to make the right decisions at all times. This will improve the service it provides to airlines and passengers, optimising the use of resources. Automating airport processes also reduces the possibility of management errors. Improving these capabilities is especially important for a country where tourism is one of the main sources of revenue.

With regards to the new ERP system, this will support the management of the entire KAA business. The integration of the management systems of the Nairobi and Mombasa airports will allow operational information to flow automatically into the ERP finance module, automating invoicing and collections. The ERP will also include Human Resources, Logistics and Purchasing, and Market Intelligence modules. All this will allow KAA to improve its efficiency and reduce costs.

Modernisation of airport facilities is an expanding business. Steady growth in the number of flights requires airports to prepare their infrastructures to absorb a greater number of passengers.
