- The company reinforces its commitment to Ireland, where it develops strategic rail and road projects, to position itself for the great opportunities the country offers in the mobility sector
- The collaboration agreement reached with Trinity College Dublin will help Indra tap into Irish talent, contribute to their training in mobility technologies and promote joint RDI projects in this sector
- Ireland's potential, proximity to Spain and its highly qualified professionals spur Indra’s commitment to the country, not only for developing local projects, but also as a springboard for doing business in other English-speaking countries
Indra has opened a new headquarters in Dublin and has reached an agreement with Trinity College Dublin, the country's top university. The aim is to strengthen its position in the Mobility business in Ireland and consolidate its position as a technology partner for Irish institutions and companies, given the country's growth prospects and ambitious sustainable mobility strategy.
The new work centre is located in one of the city's most strategic districts, alongside some of Indra's main clients and the large multinationals who have set up offices in the country. The new office is headed by Gerry Madden, Head of Transit Ireland and UK.
Indra thus reinforces its commitment to Ireland, where this permanent office will provide service and operational support to clients’ needs and the strategic national projects in which it participates, such as the development and implementation of the new nationwide rail management system and the modernisation of the Dublin tunnel access with the latest technology. It will also continue to efficiently address the opportunities and new projects that come up in the country, which has an ambitious investment plan that aims to promote a more sustainable mobility.
In addition, Indra’s goal in Ireland is to set up a base of operations that will allow it to manage projects and opportunities in other English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Canada.
As part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in the country, Indra has also signed a memorandum of agreement with Trinity College Dublin to identify opportunities to work together. The agreement between the tech company and the university allows Indra to tap into Irish talent and open the door to a unique opportunity for developing joint strategic activities on the cutting edge of technology and share the values and passion for excellence.
Indra will enable Trinity College Dublin's Computer Science Engineering students to undertake internships in real-world and world-class Indra innovation projects, lending its support to individual student research and will support final year or doctoral theses on mobility. Joint participation in RDI projects in this field is also envisaged, as well as the sponsorship of different events in the academic environment.
With over 400 years of experience, Trinity College Dublin is Ireland's oldest university and ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, according to QS World University Rankings 2023.
"We believe our technology solutions address many of Ireland's mobility needs, and the country stands to benefit from our extensive international experience and proven capacity to manage complex, multi-stakeholder programmes. The geographical and cultural proximity between Spain and Ireland and a highly competitive technological capacity compared to other countries in our environment are other differential values that we bring to the table," explains Juan March, global director of Rail & Transit in Indra's Mobility business.
Cloud-based projects, AI and an impact across the country
Indra has been collaborating on Ireland’s mobility for more than 18 years and has implemented part of its mobility solutions there.
It has recently been awarded a contract to upgrade the entrance to the Dublin Tunnel with free-flow, Artificial Intelligence and 3D LiDAR. The tunnel is a critical point for Ireland's communications, as it is the main gateway for freight traffic into the country.
This year has seen the company successfully implement and migrate an advanced third-generation cloud-based interoperability platform for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), which makes it easy for travellers to use all Irish toll roads with a single account.
Indra is currently working on the development of the rail traffic management system (TMS) for the country's new train control centre in Dublin, commissioned by Iarnród Éireann-Irish Rail. The project includes system maintenance for 15 years, with the option of extending it to 20 years.
Indra has a unique experience in the Transport sector, with more than 2,500 projects developed in more than 100 cities and more than 50 countries.
