- The digital driving license has enabled the DGT to improve the service it provides to the general public, who can simply and conveniently generate and check their digital permits, update their data, pay fees and obtain reports on their vehicles via the new application
- The user experience, accessibility, security and numerous practical operations are the reasons for the app's success
- In this project, Indra and Minsait have pooled together their unique capabilities, knowledge and experience in transportation, smart mobility, and the digitization of public authorities and the user experience
The miDGT application, developed by Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, and Minsait, its subsidiary at the forefront of the digital transformation and Information Technologies consultancy, in partnership with the IT Department of the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic, has been downloaded more than two and a half million times in less than a year in existence.
Not only is this pioneering mobile application is a digital license with full legal validity for driving within the country, it is a direct communication channel with the authority for the general public and a space where vehicle documentation can be obtained and different operations and procedures can be performed. Thus, around 900,000 users have been able to update their contact details and addresses, generate nearly 800,000 digital vehicle registration certificates and driving licenses (which have been verified 40,000 times) and easily obtain more than 220,000 basic reports on their vehicles.
Thanks to the new features that were launched in November 2020, more than 8,000 citizens have also downloaded a full report on their car, a document which is highly useful when it comes to selling a second-hand vehicle. They’ve also paid more than 13,000 fees (e.g. to modify a car’s ownership) and shared their vehicles’ documentation more than 8,000 times (e.g. in the case of family vehicles registered under the name of a single person to enable a regular driver who isn’t the vehicle owner to obtain all its documentation).
The miDGT app also allows users to check the points on their driving license, informing them of the expiry of their insurance policy or vehicle inspection test and sending out any news of interest.
The excellent usage figures recorded by the miDGT app demonstrate that it meets the real needs of the general public, who are increasingly demanding the ability to manage their relationship with the authorities and perform their operations digitally for greater convenience and savings in terms of time and money. In addition to facilitating numerous practical procedures and meeting the strictest security requirements, the miDGT app is fully accessible and the design offers an excellent user experience.
The app is ready to incorporate new features and more personalized notifications. Version 3 of the app will be launched shortly, allowing authentication by means of the user data in the DGT’s possession, provided that it has a previously registered contact phone number to which to send an SMS. It will also be possible to identify a driver who isn’t the owner of the vehicle in the event of a report and manage its usual driver or drivers. Reports can be viewed and fines can be paid by means of use of the Minsait Onesait Payments gateway.
The partner for major digitization projects in transportation
Key to the success of this innovative project, developed in close collaboration with the DGT, has been the sum total of Indra’s capabilities, knowledge and experience in transportation and smart mobility and Minsait’s work in the digitization of public authorities and disruptive technologies that make a big impact on user experience. The synergies of the work teams at the two companies have made it possible to develop an application that places the DGT at the global forefront, brings this agency closer to the public at large and contributes to improving road safety.
This important benchmark positions Indra as the best technological partner for highly advanced digital transformation projects in transportation and ensuring that new mobility models materialize.
Indra and Minsait have also recently been chosen by Puertos del Estado [National Port Authority], ADIF [National Railways Administration] and the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to carry out the SIMPLE (SIMplification of Processes for Logistic Enhancement) project, during which it will develop and implement the Spanish logistics single window. This is a strategic national logistics project that also positions Spain at the forefront of Europe with regard to the use of technology, in this case to improve the efficiency and sustainability of freight transportation.
The pioneering technological platform will bring all the information on the logistics chain together and ensure interoperability between the different national freight transportation modes and nodes, as well as its international integration, thus optimizing the efficiency and security of transactions. It will guarantee the traceability of the documentation and cargo by means of blockchain technology, enabling all the agents and transport modes in the logistics chain to interact electronically by digitizing and integrating their data and documents.
