Description of the project
The Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) has been promoting sustainability in the wine sector, and more specifically, climate change mitigation, for years. Following the climate change convention held in Barcelona in 2011 under the slogan "WineriesforClimateProtection", the Barcelona Declaration and the Decalogue of Commitments for adherence to the WfCP were published, with more than 300 wineries and individuals signing up. In 2015, this took the form of a specific certificate for the sector that allows wineries to quantify their particular commitment to sustainability in a solid way and through external verification. Precisely, one of the pillars covered by this certificate is waste management, including packaging. Along these lines, the FEV also actively participates in the design of ECOVIDRIO's Packaging Prevention Business Plans (PEP). The FEV considers that this GO REBO2VINO project is a clear opportunity for wineries to reduce the carbon footprint linked to glass bottles, responsible for most of the emissions into the atmosphere, while contributing to the objectives of climate change mitigation at national level and collaborating in the circular economy of the sector, as it will provide wineries with a useful tool to increase the sustainability of the processes.
