In the last 72hs I have traveled to the 80's twice, first because I have finally seen Mecano's musical “Hoy no me puedo levantar” (today I can’t wake up) in the Coliseum theater. One of the best musicals ever seen in Madrid, with more than 2.5 million spectators and with 27 set changes with LED technology, really recommendable. Second, because I attended the celebration of the 35 anniversary of the Círculo de Empresarios (a Spanish business association), where the history of the institution was reviewed.
One of the events that will be remembered from the year 2013 is the voluntary retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of Manchester United (ManUnited), the world's most valuable football franchise. After 26 seasons at the helm, with 13 "Premier League" titles and 25 other trophies, he holds what appears an unbeatable record.
It seemed it would never arrive, but it's here. I think I had never looked forward so much to the end of the year and the start of a new one. Apart from the fact that I'm not very keen on the number 13, everything suggests that the long-awaited economic recovery will take place in 2014, after too many years of crisis.
At the beginning of the year we have the curious feeling of starting from “0″, of resetting and starting all over again. This year I have decided to write a letter to Santa Claus, which I hope he will receive and read and, at least, grant me some wishes.
The letter reads as follows:
Currently, sixty percent of the world's population, or 3.6 billion people, live in cities. The forecast for 2030 is that there will be 5 billion people living in urban settings, centered mainly in developing countries, subsequently providing a significant boost to the world's economy due to the emergence of a large middle class.
The time has come to take stock of the year 2013; of the many subjects that come to mind, there is one that has attracted my attention. Have you ever wondered why there has been such a rise in movies, series, games, comics, literature, apps and hundreds of gadgets dealing with zombies? Although not a new phenomenon, its rise in popularity is disturbing.
There are questions nobody asks because they are obvious. Others are not so obvious. The latter include some questions many people ask themselves about great companies and their relationship with entrepreneurship. Why do large companies implement and support initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship? What interest can a multinational company have in promoting young entrepreneurs?
